Shear is marginal to weak although potent updrafts may develop…producing storms with very heavy rain, lightning and small hail. Target zone: eastern TN and WV and western NC and VA (generally west of Rt. 29).

MD Panhandle, central-eastern PA and northern NJ will see several inches of accumulating snow…Catskills could get crushed again!. Hudson Valley  and Upstate NY along with all but extreme northern New England will see substantial totals…frequently exceeding one foot!

Eastern Mid-Atlantic Tornado Watches

March 2, 2007

Tornado Watches through this morning for portions of eastern NC and eastern VA. Wavy Warm Front is crossing NOVA and the Delmarva while the strong Cold Front  currently is along the Blue Ridge and will be off shore later this morning. Scattered thunderstorms will continue in the Watch areas and an isolated tornado is possible. Tornado Warning at this time (8:25AM) Hyde County and Carteret County, NC.  Current info at our Severe WeatherCenter: http://www.midatlanticwx.com/watchmap.htm

Night Time Severe Weather Continues

March 1, 2007

10:00PM. Line of strong/svr storms producing TORs in SE Alabama and thunderstorms into GA and the FL Panhandle. Frontal boundary lifting NNE up into Carolinas and Supercells are possible overnight. Widespread 1+ inch rainfall totals into VA and the Mid-Atlantic area overnight.

I’m hearing media reports the death toll in Enterprise, AL are too high…one is too many but eighteen is not accurate at this time. Best reliable reports are eight or nine.

Virtually no lightning as of yet north of South Carolina but storms will migrate into NC and perhaps VA overnight. Flash flooding remains a concern into Friday morning. More a: http://www.midatlanticwx.com/watchmap.htm

Storms, Tornadoes Moving East

March 1, 2007

Prolific number of TORs across north central Gulf States with numerous tornadoes reported. Heard on the radio the Enterprise (AL) High School was hit by a tornado while school was in session, producing some injuries. One hopes for the best there, and elsewhere.

Much of FL Peninsula added to Tornado Watch areas as severe weather tracks east ahead of approaching Cold Front. Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch may go up shortly for eastern TN/KY and/or portions of the Carolinas (perhaps SE VA). Thunderstorms and tornadoes will approach these areas after dark, renewing the threat of night time tornadoes! Remain alert tonight for the potential of severe weather! Tornadoes have had a history of being powerful and on the ground for several miles…monitor NOAA weather radio, reliable media and stay on our Severe StormCenter at Mid-Atlantic WX.com: http://www.midatlanticwx.com/watchmap.htm

Much of the Mid-Atlantic up into PA under the gun for a couple batches of rain tonight. Flood Watches in effect. Two to three inches of rain possible as is the chance for some small creak and stream flooding as well as lower urban areas overnight.

Won’t update Scott’s Blog tonight but will have another update later here on our news feed.
